Chappie is the thrid installment to the Neill Blomkamp trilogy, and it combines his branded style of dystopian cyberpunk with a cute story about raising a new artificial life.
The story takes place in Johannesburg, SA (like in District 9) and revolves around a police bot whose firmware was overwritten by his own maker at gunpoint. Because of this, the bot had obtained sentience, and now has to learn all about life, starting at the infant stage. The gangsters that find him name him Chappie, and Chappie finds himself torn between his promise to his maker and his obligations to his gangster family. Not only that, Chappie's battery is not only melted into his chest, making it unable to be removed, but it's also low. In the end, Chappie has learned enough about human life to where it could even save his own maker from dying.
This one is an interesting mix of wholesome moments, brutal gunfights, and cyberpunk technology, and don't worry: it has a happy ending.
